Pietersite is a stone aggregate made up of hawk's eye and tiger's eye. It was originally discovered by Sid Peters in 1962 in Namibia on the African continent. In 1993, a similar stone was discovered in the Hunan Province of China. Production from both of these mines is limited so the stone can be difficult to find.
The surface of the Pietersite is more chaotic than tiger's eye because during the crystallization process the base materials were broken, mixed up and reformed in quartz, a process know as brecciation.
Pietersite colors include blues, rusty reds, golds and browns. It is also know as Tempest Stone and Eagle's Eye.
